DSEAR Risk Assessments

Ensure full compliance with the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR) with expert support from Delta Fire Engineering’s CompEx-certified in-house consultants. If your business handles flammable substances, combustible dusts, or oxidising agents, you may be legally required to carry out a DSEAR risk assessment to protect your people, property, and operations.

What is a Dangerous Substance?

A dangerous substance is any material used or stored in the workplace that can create a risk of fire or explosion. This includes flammable liquids such as solvents, combustible dusts and powders, oxidising substances, and flammable gases. When these materials form a hazardous atmosphere and encounter an ignition source, they can cause serious harm to people and significant damage to assets.

  • Identify any dangerous substances and processes where they are used in the workplace and the risks they pose.
  • Put control measures in place to remove the risk or where this cannot done, control them.
  • Control or reduce the effects of an explosion within the workplace.
  • Classify areas that dangerous substances are used or stored.
  • Where explosive atmospheres could be created, avoid ignition sources.
